Former Indian bowler S Sreesanth has provided some insight into the significance of domestic cricket, despite the fact that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is specifically focusing on local cricket and has also mandated that all cricket players participate in domestic tournaments.
The pacer is of the opinion that young cricketers and rising cricketers should get the opportunity to participate in every domestic cricket match.
Within the context of the Indian Veteran Premier League 2024, S Sreesanth is currently competing for the Rajasthan Legends. Since 2011, Sreesanth has done not a single international encounter for India. He is currently seen playing in league cricket instead of international matches.
The Indian team’s current fast bowling selection, which has included a limited number of left-arm pacers, was another topic that Sreesanth covered in his commentary. Although there are bowlers who put in a lot of effort at the local level, the former Indian pacer believes that a left-arm pacer makes a substantial contribution to the team.
S. Sreesanth shares his insights on domestic cricket importance
S. Sreesanth made a statement on the sidelines of the IVPL 2024, (as quoted by News18), “It’s very important to play First-Class cricket. All the players should play all the matches, especially domestic cricket. There are surely bowlers who are playing at the domestic level. I’m sure there will be bowlers who will be eager to come and play. I won’t take any names but would say one thing, ‘Mehnat karo, India khel sakte ho’.”
Under the direction of MS Dhoni, S Sreesanth was a member of the Indian team that triumphed at the Twenty20 World Cup in 2007. In addition, the current captain of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma, was a member of that team.
The former bowler for India has shown his support for Rohit and is confident that India would emerge victorious in the Twenty20 World Cup 2024 while Rohit is serving as captain.
He said, “Rohit (Sharma) is a brilliant captain and a brilliant cricketer. This time I’m sure that the T20 World Cup which is going to take place in West Indies and USA, we will win the final for sure.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has mandated that all players who are not participating in international cricket must still play domestic cricket for their respective teams. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, two players who were meant to join their respective local teams, did not, however, make the decision to do so.
Ishan Kishan chose not to participate in the selection process for the Indian against English Test squad, citing mental stiffness as the driving force behind his decision. Kirshan, on the other hand, has been working out in Vadodara alongside Hardik Pandya, an all-rounder for the Indian squad, and he will be participating in the DY Patil Trophy.
Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, was not included in the Indian squad since he was unable to score well in the first two Test matches that were played against England.
As a result of a complaint of back stiffness, Iyer was unable to participate in the Ranji Trophy knockout phase with the Mumbai Ranji team. Iyer had been scheduled to participate in the Ranji Trophy.
There was also a question directed towards the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma concerning the increased desire of younger cricket players to participate in Test matches.
As a response to the query, Rohit provided a cryptic response in which he stated that the individuals who do not have the desire to play Test cricket can be deduced from the expressions on their faces.
The five-match Test series that India is now playing against England is currently under progress, and India currently holds a 3-1 lead in the series.
